What is Heart2Art?

Mission Statement:
The goal of the Heart2Art Project is to influence our generation into becoming a more accepting and open community of empowered individuals through the expression of all art forms.
The Heart2Art Project was founded by a teen who felt compelled to empower and educate her generation through the eyes of the artist. We want to act as a platform for art and activism to collide and to spread messages of tolerance and love.
Our project focuses on a specific topic every two months. During this period, our team will be sharing and creating art relating to the issue at hand, whether that be through social media, our website, local events, or public forums.

December-January Topic:

Teens in Art
With the rise of political and social movements all over the globe, a wave of change has engulfed our generation. Not only are teenage filmmakers, artists, dancers, and musicians continuing to thrive in the creative world, but a desire for change is more present than ever in our youth. In a world where the voices and perspectives of the younger generation is often dismissed, we will be shedding light on the teenagers that are still making their mark despite the odds. In the wise words of Twisted Sister:
We're not going to take it anymore.

The Beginning of a Movement

Caitlyn Phu was 15 years old when the idea of Heart2Art first came to her. Growing up with immigrant parents in Southern California, Caitlyn learned at a young age that she would be raised in a different environment than many of her peers. The expression of culture was something she had always felt was fairly suppressed in the society she had grown up in, so she found it very difficult to hold onto her heritage while attempting to "fit in" with everyone else.

However, she soon discovered her passion for art and filmmaking and utilized it as a means of expressing her feelings and thoughts about the world around her. By the time she first entered high school, she was an ardent artist who began to learn more about the issues that troubled society. Around this time, world-shaking events surrounding the LGBT community, women's rights, immigration, and civil rights began to unfold, leading Caitlyn to decide that it was time to do something about it. Equipped with only an idea, a camera, and a group of other passionate teens, the Heart2Art Project was soon formed and put into action.
